You can make a difference by volunteering with the Teaching Tools Resource Center.

Over 800 people of all ages volunteered over 5,200 hours last year to support the Hillsborough Education Foundation’s mission and help students reach their full potential by generously donating their time and talent. Our volunteers are critical partners in helping us operate the Teaching Tools Resource Center.  They help us re-stock shelves, sorting and repacking donated school supplies and assisting in teacher check-out. Without them, our students without the basic school supplies would not receive free pencils, crayons and paper throughout the school year.

The Resource Center has several volunteer options so you can choose a time commitment that works with your schedule whether it is once per week or once per month. Volunteer hours and days depend on which opportunity you choose.

Students can also volunteer for their community service hours. Students ages 11-14 can volunteer at the Store with a parent or guardian present. Students ages 15 and over may fulfill their community service hours at the Resource Center with parent or guardian consent.

No matter how you volunteer, the rewards are many and exceed the good feeling you will get from helping our students. You will be making a lasting difference in the life of a student by helping us provide something as simple as a pencil. Please join us.

Volunteer Opportunities

At the Teaching Tools Resource Center

The Teaching Tools Resource Center  is a real brick-and-mortar store offering free school supplies to any teacher from the Hillsborough County Title I schools we serve. Title I school teachers can select up to $3,000 in free supplies each year, which help fill the gaps in classroom needs without having to reach into their own pockets. Likewise, teachers in non-Title I schools can volunteer their time in exchange for free supplies. The Teaching Tools Resource Center relies on volunteers to keep its doors open and the shelves stocked with donated supplies.

Store Associate Volunteer assists teachers with their check-out process.

At Events

Each year, HEF hosts many community events that recognize and inform educators and involve the community in our mission.  Volunteers are the life-blood of these events, making it possible for us to attract and welcome even more people to participate, year after year.  Each year, we host an EmpowerED Luncheon, the Excellence in Education Awards and numerous other events. Volunteers are paramount to making these events run smoothly.
