How it Works

The Teaching Tools Resource Center provides free school supplies year-round to economically disadvantaged students attending Hillsborough County Public Schools designated as Title I (federal designation that signifies 75% or more of the students in the school qualify for the free and reduced lunch program).

In Hillsborough County, 160 of the 263 public and charter schools are deemed Title I. The Resource Center currently serves 174 sites including DJJ programs, career centers, full-service centers and all Title I schools.

The Teaching Tools Resource Center is a real brick and mortar "store" housed at the Hillsborough Education Foundation, 2306 N. Howard Avenue, Tampa, FL. The Resource Center is managed and operated by the Foundation and staffed by a fleet of volunteers who operate teacher check-in and check-out processes, stock shelves and sort donations. The Resource Center could not run as efficiently or effectively without the help of our dedicated volunteers.

Teachers shop monthly collecting on average *$289 in free supplies to bring back to their classrooms. The store is open throughout the school year (July - May) so a teacher can acquire about $3,179 in free school supplies throughout the school year.
