How it Works

The Teaching Tools Store provides free school supplies year-round to economically disadvantaged students attending Hillsborough County Public Schools designated as Title I (federal designation that signifies 75% or more of the students in the school qualify for the free and reduced lunch program).

In Hillsborough County, 166 of the 263 public and charter schools are deemed Title I. The Store currently serves all 166 Title I schools.

The Teaching Tools Store is a real brick and mortar store housed at the Hillsborough Education Foundation, 2306 N. Howard Avenue, Tampa, FL. The Store is managed and operated by the Foundation and staffed by a fleet of volunteers who operate teacher check-in and check-out processes, stock shelves and sort donations. The Store could not run as efficiently or effectively without the help of our dedicated volunteers.

Teachers shop monthly collecting on average $230 in free supplies to bring back to their classrooms. The store is open throughout the school year (July - May) so a teacher can acquire about $2,530 in free school supplies throughout the school year.
