(March 17, 2017) TAMPA - After a nationwide search, the Hillsborough Education Foundation is pleased to announce Kim Jowell as president and a member of the Board of Directors, effective immediately.
Mrs. Jowell brings more than two decades of nonprofit leadership experience to her new role, having previously served as a national council leadership strategist for Girl Scouts USA, providing capacity building and executive coaching to improve the organizational health of 112 councils across the country. Prior to joining the national team, she served for five years as CEO of Girl Scouts of West Central Florida.
"We welcome Kim's strategic experience and nonprofit leadership to the Foundation," HEF Board Chair Randy James said. "In her new role as president, she will be leading the Foundation's strategic direction with emphasis on community relations and growing programs to impact more students in Hillsborough County Public Schools."
Mrs. Jowell has also worked as the executive director of the Suncoast Safety Council in Clearwater, and the Largo-based Pinellas Village, Inc. She began her career at the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, where she served in various positions, including communications supervisor and victim advocate.
"Making a difference in children's lives has always been my purpose," Mrs. Jowell said. "What drew me to the Foundation's mission was the opportunity to impact youth and future leaders in a new way. I am looking forward to advancing our impact."
Mrs. Jowell succeeds former HEF President Phil Jones, who retired last summer. Virginia McGrath, the organization's Senior Director of Marketing, served as interim president while the Board of Directors conducted the search for a new leader.
