The Hillsborough Education Foundation is an independent not-for-profit 501(c) 3 organization whose purpose is to help the Hillsborough County Public School teachers and students excel in programs that are not funded by public tax revenues. Led by a volunteer Board of Directors made up of business, education and community leaders, the Foundation has invested more than $55 million in public education since its inception in 1988.

The Foundation strives to direct resources to improve the educational efforts of specific initiatives or projects. Serving students and inspiring relationships between Hillsborough County Public Schools and businesses in the area is a mutually beneficial relationship for the growth and development of our community.

We are effective in our efforts because of the tremendous amount of support we get from the community via volunteers. The necessary guidance and support we receive by our Board of Directors allows us to accomplish our goals. Committees and workgroups support the various programs we provide.

The Foundation provides the private sector with a primary channel for giving and targets the following areas for support:

• Scholarships and Grants  - providing student scholarship winners with hope and something to strive towards, a post- secondary education.Awarding classroom grants to teachers for curriculum enhancement and school grants to principals for school-wide initiatives. Awarding Match Grants for technology improvements at schools and providing School Improvement Grants to administrators.
• Grants for post-secondary technical education at one of Hillsborough County's HI-TEC Centers
• Nature's Classroom - giving all sixth graders a three-day, hands-on experience in the native Florida environment, unique to Hillsborough County.
• Recognition & Special Events - organizing and producing recognition events (e.g., Business Partnership Breakfast, Teacher of the Year, Ida S. Baker Distinguished Educator, Support Employee of the Year, etc...)  that honor exemplary people and companies who work in or on behalf of the school district.
• Communities In Schools - seeking to provide needed resources to ensure that students stay in school, successfully learn, and prepare for life. Programs include Hillsborough Reads, an early intervention literacy program; and managing the Take Stock in Children's scholarship/mentoring program.
