Classroom Grants Assist Teachers and Administrators in the Education Process

"This grant meant the difference of a good reading experience and a really ‘WOW' reading experience.  We were able to engage the students and faculty into a true reading adventure."

A classroom grant can make learning exciting for teachers and students because it gives teachers an opportunity to be creative and innovative.  A classroom grant is a grant that is written by an individual classroom teacher around a theme.  These grants are unique because they put funds directly into the hands of the classroom teacher.  Classroom grant awards range from $250 to $2,500.

The Fall 2012 application process will be open September 5 2012 - March 29 2013.

iResponds Learning Systems
Lowry Elementary

With a grant from the Hillsborough Education Foundation, Lowry Elementary was able to upgrade the learning experience while staying environmentally friendly!

The school used their grant award to purchase iRespond devices for every intermediate classroom in grades three through five.  They made it a lot easier for teachers to grade, which meant more time for learning.  The students used a remote keypad to respond to questions, and pace their understanding.

"The iResponds are helpful for taking a test.  They are better than writing with your hands," said one student.  These systems provide each student with instant individual feedback and enable teachers to immediately modify their lesson plans as needed.  The use of these devices make students excited to learn and keep them engaged during lessons.  "I have never seen my students so excited to review for a test!" commented a teacher.
