Mentors Make a Difference

Mentors Make a Difference in Students Lives

"I am very appreciative of my mentor.  She has counseled me on a lot of things.  She has taught me about what I need to do to go to college.  She has been there with me guiding me every step of the way with the process and I am very grateful.  I'm really glad that she has stuck by me since the 6th grade." ~ Sherline, Take Stock in Children mentee

Mentors encourage students to be successful in school. Having a relationship with a positive adult role model helps students succeed, achieve, and graduate from high school. As a mentor, you can provide a role model for students who have a scholarship for college, but may not have a family member who has attended college to help them.  Would you give up one lunch break a week to provide a listening ear, a kind word of encouragement and the maturity and experience that many students seek?

A mentor can be any caring adult who will meet with his or her student once per week at school. A mentor is literally a "trusted friend" and, with the training offered by the Foundation, you too can become a trusted friend to one of the Florida Prepaid Scholarship recipients.

When Linda started mentoring, she wasnt sure what impact she may have on Kamile's life.  However, after spending some time with Kamile, a high school student who ultimately graduated as valedictorian of her class, she knew why she became involved. Linda said Kamile was an absolute delight to mentor.  She was not your typical high school student; she knew what she wanted and was determined to get there.
